    Editorial Reviews:

    Product Description
January 1946: writer Juliet Ashton receives a letter from a stranger, a founding member of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. And so begins a remarkable tale of the island of Guernsey during the German occupation, and of a society as extraordinary as its name.

5 out of 5 stars So utterly charming. Why did it have to end?   March 10, 2010

I can't recommend this book enough. You will fall in love with each and every character. Each with a unique voice. All charming. Do not think twice about reading this book. Just do it.

5 out of 5 stars Chuckle out loud!   March 10, 2010

What a wonderful story. I thought it might be strange to read a book that was all in the form of letters, but the story unfolds and the characters are so well developed that you feel like they are real. The writing is witty, makes you chuckle to yourself. At the same time, there are serious topics undertaken and a historical story told. Wonderful, must read!

5 out of 5 stars Letter format book   March 8, 2010

I was not sure about this book at first. The letters were tedious at first and I was about to give up on this book, but I finally read one that hooked me into finding out what happens next. By the time I was a quarter-way thought I was vested in what would happened next. Halfway through I could not put this book down without thinking about the people in this book.

5 out of 5 stars So Enjoyable!   March 8, 2010

I typically do not care for stories told strictly through correspondence; however, this book changed my mind. This was written in such a way that I could fully picture life on Guernsey and fell in love with the characters almost instantly. While there were some sad moments, as there will be during wartime, the book had an overall happy tone. The ending was fitting, but I still wanted more. It was a hard book to put down.
